Basic Input/Output system initialize and test the hardware components of the system and it loads the operating system and boot loader from the memory device. It provides a layer to the hardware which helps in interacting the operating system and the application programs with the hardware devices. The hardware devices which interact with the operating system and the application programs are keyboard, mouse, display screen and other input output devices. Until 1980s MS-DOS was the operating system which was most commonly used. This system used BIOS services for keyboard, disk and text displays. Basic Input Output devices are designed in every computer or motherboard model. They are designed by interfacing with multiple devices which make the complete chipset for the system. Now-a-days the BIOS contents are stored in the flash memory so that any changes required can be done without removing the chip from the motherboard.
