What is the full form of LCD:

LCD represents Liquid Crystal Display.

It is a flat display screen. In a normal display screen, a cathode ray tube is used, which gives a tube like shape to the device. Due to which, the screen is not flat, and energy consumption is very high. LCD has a flat screen, and has very low power consumption.

It is an optical device which modulates electronically. It has multiple segments which control a layer of liquid crystals. It then has a reflector to produce the image in different colors.

LCD has multiple pixels which consist of a layer of molecules, which are placed between two transparent electrodes, and two parallel and perpendicular filters. A liquid crystal is placed between the two polarizing filters. If the liquid crystal is not present, the light will pass through the first filter and then it will be blocked. It will not be able to pass the second filter.

A Liquid crystal display is an electronic visual display. Liquid crystals have a great property of modulating the light. Liquid crystals cannot emit light directly. When energy is passed through liquid crystals they emit light.

LCDS are used in computer monitors, laptops, televisions, aircraft cockpits, electronic instruments etc. Now-a-days LCDs are used in clocks, calculators, watches, telephones, DVD players etc.

Cathode ray tubes and plasma displays use phosphors, and hence suffer from image burning problems. But LCDs use liquid crystal, which does not use phosphors. They are more energy efficient and much safer than cathode ray tubes. They can be used by battery powered equipments also.
