What is the full form of CDMA:

CDMA represents Code Division Multiple Access.

It is a technique to access the channel which is used by different radio communication technologies. As the name suggests, it is a multiple access technique, where multiple transmitters can send information simultaneously over a single communication channel and also multiple receivers can receive data at a one given point. CDMA allows multiple users to share one particular bandwidth. As multiple codes are sent and received simultaneously, there is a possibility of mixing the data and creating an unwanted interference between the users. To avoid this, CDMA uses spread spectrum technology and a coding technique. Through this technique, every transmitter is assigned a particular code to modulate their specific signal. At the receiving end, this particular modulating code is removed, and the data is received, as it was sent.

Choosing the codes to modulate the signal is a very important part of CDMA. It can be understood by a simple example. IF there are multiple people in a room and all are talking to each other simultaneously. To avoid the confusion, people can take turns to speak, which is called Time Division, speak at different pitches, which is called Frequency Division, or speak in different languages, which is called Code Division. CDMA uses the last method, in which people speak at the same time but in different languages. Each user is given a code. Many codes can use the same channel, but only users with a particular code can communicate with each other.

There are two categories in CDMA: Synchronous CDMA and Asynchronous CDMA.

Synchronous CDMA uses simple radio transceivers, whereas in Asynchronous CDMA, a low frequency signal is time multiplied with a high frequency signal and then transmitted.
